01 · About

Colombia, represented properly. About Muisca™ Travel & Events, a Boutique Colombia DMC

Muisca Travel & Events is a boutique Colombia destination management company built for incentive travel, corporate events, executive hosting, and select private journeys.

02 · Our Heritage

Why Muisca?

The Muisca were astronomers, farmers, traders, and master goldsmiths. Long before foreign hands arrived on Colombian soil, Muisca artisans transformed raw gold into something sacred — not through force, but through patience, skill, and reverence for the land that produced it. Each piece was a one-of-a-kind creation, crafted with intention, designed to leave an indelible mark on everyone who received it.

That philosophy of craft, precision, and transformation is the foundation of everything we build. We take Colombia’s extraordinary cultural richness and forge it into experiences that are precious, singular, and impossible to replicate.

The name honors a philosophy of transformation and craft; it does not claim to speak for present-day Muisca communities. Muisca Travel & Events SAS, a destination management company founded in 2019 in Manizales, is unrelated to the pre-Columbian Muisca people, whose name it honours.

03 · The Founder

James Gallego — CEO & Founder

For James, tourism has never been just about moving people; it has been about representing Colombia properly through its culture, its hospitality, its landscapes, and the unforgettable moments that happen when everything is designed with care.

James Gallego co-founded Muisca Travel & Events in 2019 with a simple vision: to help people experience Colombia with depth, elegance, and real connection. Today, that same vision continues to guide Muisca, while James also helps represent the region on the global stage through SITE’s 2026 International Board.

After years working across Colombia’s destination and experience industry, he built Muisca as a boutique destination management company shaped by strategic thinking, cultural care, and seamless delivery. Since then, the company has grown into an award-winning partner for incentives, meetings, and events across the country, known for senior-led planning and experiences shaped around each client’s goals and each guest’s profile.

04 · Our Values · What Governs the Work

Craftsmanship Over Convention

Every program is built from the ground up. We begin with the client’s brand, audience, and objectives, then shape an experience that feels specific to them, to Colombia, and to the moment.

05 · Our Values · What Governs the Work

Cultural Depth, Not Surface

Colombia is never treated as backdrop. We work with living craft, food, music, and contemporary local context in ways that are specific to the brief, carefully introduced, and grounded in real people and place.

06 · Our Values · What Governs the Work

Communities as Partners

We work through direct relationships in places such as La Guajira and Huila, integrating makers, performers, cooperatives, and cultural hosts with proper credit, fair value, and long-term relationships.

07 · Our Values · What Governs the Work

Obsessive Precision

We plan with unusual rigor. Timings, sourcing, rehearsals, handoffs, and guest movement are aligned to the same standard, so the experience feels controlled, seamless, and exact.

Frequently asked questions

What clients ask about working with us

Muisca Travel & Events was founded in 2019 by James Gallego and Andrés Mejía with the vision of helping people experience Colombia with depth, elegance, and real connection. Today, James also helps represent the region internationally through SITE’s 2026 International Board.

Muisca Travel & Events is headquartered in Manizales, Colombia — in the heart of the Coffee Region — with a secondary operations office in Cartagena, its most-operated city, and a team in Bogotá. The company operates programs nationwide.

The company is named in honor of the Muisca civilization — one of pre-Columbian America’s most advanced societies. The Muisca were master goldsmiths who transformed raw material into something sacred through patience, skill, and reverence for the land.

A Colombia DMC — destination management company — designs and operates incentive travel, corporate events, executive programs, and private journeys on the ground in Colombia. Muisca Travel & Events is a Colombia-based boutique DMC, with Bogotá, Cartagena, Medellín, Cali, and the Coffee Region as core operating anchors and senior leadership on every brief.

Muisca keeps destination intelligence, creative direction, production, and cultural curation inside one disciplined senior team — no template assembly, no broker model. Every program is built from a blank page around the client’s brand, with the senior team close to the work from brief to delivery.

Muisca is a four-time nominee for Colombia’s Best MICE Organiser at the World MICE Awards, winning the category in 2021 and earning further nominations in 2024 and 2025. It is also a 2023 SITE Crystal Award nominee and a Colombian National Tourism Awards nominee. Co-founder James Gallego serves on SITE’s 2026 International Board of Directors.
